Despite these challenges, Weda remained determined to find employment. However, as someone who had never held a job before, she was unsure of how to navigate the process in the UK.
Recognising Weda’s potential, the People Hub team provided tailored support to help her break through these barriers. Weda participated in several workshops focused on employer expectations, transferable skills and the job-seeking process in the UK. These sessions helped her uncover and appreciate the valuable skills she already possessed.
One key milestone in Weda’s journey was attending a CV-writing workshop, where she learned how to craft her very first CV. This practical step gave her the tools she needed to present herself confidently to potential employers.
Through the Education Development Trust, Weda was provided with a tablet, enabling her to attend online sessions via Microsoft Teams. This digital support not only helped her improve her English but also gave her access to additional learning resources. As a warm welcome, Weda and her family also received a £25 gift voucher for a big box of fresh fruits and vegetables, which they deeply appreciated.
Today, Weda’s confidence has grown significantly. She feels excited and prepared to begin applying for jobs and is actively seeking volunteering opportunities to gain valuable work experience. Her English proficiency has improved remarkably, and she continues to practise daily.
Reflecting on her journey, Weda shared, “Thanks to EDT and the People Hub, I understand more about job culture. I feel more confident, and now I need more practice about the job. I have been using the tablet to get skills and improve my English, and I can’t wait to make my CV.”
Weda’s story is a testament to the transformative power of personalised support. With her newfound skills and confidence, she is well on her way to achieving her goal of employment and thriving in her new environment.
