After experiencing sofa surfing and rough sleeping, he made a life-changing decision—seeking support for alcohol recovery at Bosence Farm. Ready for a fresh start, he connected with the People Hub through our Specialist Partner, St Petrocs.
Seeing Ben from St Petrocs regularly helped Max stay engaged. He started attending events and quickly became an active part of the community. Since joining the project, his progress has been nothing short of inspiring.
Max has thrown himself into opportunities provided by St Petrocs’ Vocational Development Team. From tree planting and community walks to indoor football, he’s embraced every chance to rebuild his confidence and skills. But he didn’t stop there—he stepped up as a volunteer, speaking on behalf of the organisation, even featuring on BBC Radio Cornwall alongside St Petrocs’ CEO! He also took part in a community consultation with the Duchy of Cornwall, helping shape future support for others.
By sharing his lived experience, Max has encouraged others to seek help too. His voice has made a real impact, and the People Hub has been there every step of the way, ensuring he feels included and supported.
Max can’t speak highly enough of the St Petrocs and People Hub teams, saying that even one day a week connecting with others can make all the difference.
His next goal? Joining the Navy. He’s set his sights on starting in warfare before training as a Navy fitness instructor. He’s just completed his medical evaluation and is eagerly waiting for the next step. In the meantime, he’s improving his physical and mental health, taking Military History courses through the People Hub, and continuing to champion the work of St Petrocs and the Vocational Development Programme.
Reflecting on his journey, Max shared:
“VDP has been super helpful since I have been in a St Petrocs House. The activities I’ve taken part in have introduced me to other house members, and meeting other people has had such a positive impact on my progress. That has been possible due to St Petrocs and the People Hub. There are so many fantastic opportunities, and a space to meet with others – it is such a positive project.”
From overcoming homelessness to planning a future in the Navy, Max’s story is proof that with the right support, anything is possible.
