Summer Steps Back Into Education with People Hub

Summer joined the People Hub project in July 2025 looking for support to return to education and build a pathway towards future employment.

At the time she was economically inactive and unsure about her next steps, needing guidance around sixth form options, applications and employability skills.

Following a referral to Carefree, Summer was matched with a keyworker who provided tailored one-to-one support focused on both education and confidence building. Together they researched sixth form colleges and supported Summer through the application process. This led to her successful enrolment at Helston Sixth Form College where she is now studying English, History and Drama.

Alongside her studies Summer worked on developing key employability skills. She received support to create a CV and cover letter, practised communicating with employers and took part in speculative outreach to build confidence and experience. She also began volunteering as a Peer Mentor at Carefree, supporting a weekly drama group and gaining valuable skills in teamwork and communication.

To further strengthen her skills Summer was supported to apply for, attend and achieve a Level 3 First Aid qualification. This has added to her confidence and employability and given her a recognised qualification to take forward.

Summer has made strong progress since joining People Hub. She is attending sixth form successfully, has achieved a Level 3 First Aid qualification and now feels much more confident communicating with employers. Her next goal is to secure part-time work alongside her studies, building on the skills, experience and motivation she has developed.
