Simon rebuilds his confidence and returns to work through Connect to Work

After being made redundant, Simon spent two years out of work and applied for more than 30 jobs without success. Struggling with anxiety and a loss of confidence, he found the job search increasingly difficult. After connecting with People Hub, Simon was referred onto the Connect to Work programme, where tailored support helped him rebuild his confidence, strengthen his CV and successfully secure employment with Taurus Logistics in Redruth.

Simon first heard about People Hub after being signposted to a jobs fair at County Hall in Truro by Jobcentre Plus. Keen to explore opportunities, he attended the event and met the team, who told him about the support available through Connect to Work.

Shortly afterwards, Simon completed an online referral through People Hub and was matched with a Connect to Work Connector. Together, they explored the barriers that were preventing him from finding work and developed a plan to help him move forward.

Having been out of work for an extended period, Simon lacked confidence in his abilities and found the job application process difficult. Through Connect to Work, he received tailored one-to-one support designed around his individual needs.

The support included improving his CV, creating a profile on job websites, developing his confidence when speaking to potential employers and identifying roles that matched his strengths and experience. Together, Simon and his Connector focused on practical steps that would help him feel more confident and increase his chances of success.

Just over a month after beginning his journey on the Connect to Work programme, Simon successfully secured a role as a Warehouse Assistant with Taurus Logistics in Redruth, starting work in August 2026. He now works 20 hours per week and is enjoying being back in employment.

Reflecting on the difference the support made, Simon said: “Improving my CV and building my confidence made a real difference. The support helped me feel more positive about applying for jobs, and that confidence helped me secure my new role.”
