At the same time, she received an autism diagnosis through the Right to Choose pathway, all while recovering from domestic violence. Life felt overwhelming, and Brooke described meeting her Change Coach as “a relief” – someone to help her piece things together and see a way forward. With steady guidance and the stability offered by the People Hub, Brooke has made incredible progress.
Since starting her journey, Brooke has also received an ADHD diagnosis, giving her more clarity about herself and her needs. Despite daily health challenges, her determination to rebuild her career has been inspiring. Drawing on her healthcare background, she recently secured part-time work in a pharmacy while also completing occasional bank shifts with the NHS as an Emergency Care Assistant.
She was overjoyed when offered a permanent zero-hour contract after maternity cover at the pharmacy came to an end. Brooke said: “Honestly, Jess, I felt like I could’ve cried – this suits me down to the ground. Without the support and reflection appointments, it would’ve felt a lot more lonely, and I really appreciate the encouragement and advice that I’m given in such a non-judgmental and comfortable manner.”
Her Change Coach has supported her with practical steps too, including improving her CV, job applications and personal statements, helping her present her strengths with confidence.
Alongside her work, Brooke is studying part-time for a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences – a huge step in her long-term goals. She has also launched her own initiative, Constance Consulting, after previously co-facilitating autism training as someone with lived experience. Through this, she has supported the delivery of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Paignton and has already been invited back.
Brooke also shares her story through her vlog, Basically Being Brooke, offering honest insight into living with autism, endometriosis and ADHD. Her openness has resonated with viewers and helped others feel understood.
Brooke says: “Its great to have my change coach as support… I always feel lighter when I come away from meetings with Jess which really helps me deal with life better.”
