Introduced in July 2025 through Carefree Cornwall as a separated child seeking asylum, she faced big challenges with language barriers and cultural differences.

She also needed chances to build her social skills, connect with peers and explore future career paths.

Since joining People Hub, Nya has thrown herself into every opportunity. With one-to-one support from her Careers IAG Key Worker and access to Carefree’s vibrant programme of activities, she has enjoyed an Art Day, a Beach Day and a visit to Cotehele House. These experiences have helped her make new friends, boost her confidence and develop her English.

Nya’s progress doesn’t stop there. With her Key Worker’s guidance she has returned to college, working hard on time-keeping and study skills. She’s also preparing for her future by exploring different job roles, writing a CV and taking on further training, beginning with a first aid course.

Perhaps most inspiring is Nya’s role in the Carefree Event Planning Team. Once a shy observer, she is now a confident contributor, helping to plan two major events for care leavers — ‘It’s Been Emotional’ and the ‘Festive Party’.

Nya said, ‘I feel proud that I joined Carefree. I’m happy all the time and I learn new things that I didn’t know before Carefree. The people there are lovely. I really enjoy being part of a group’

Nya’s determination and enthusiasm shine through in everything she does. With continued support and her own drive, she is building the foundations for a bright and successful future.
