Nick began his journey with us after being referred to Konnect mentor Becky by his probation officer. He was unsure of what to expect and feeling low, but Becky was on hand to help. Nick had been experiencing issues with several problems at the time, including his housing situation, but with the assistance of Becky and the team, he was able to get the support he needed.
Nick was encouraged to take up training, having previously worked as a builder before a bout of ill health. With the support of Konnect, he was sent on a bricklaying course, and signed up to attend college, beginning in January 2022. He was also motivated to participate in voluntary work, which Nick found incredibly helpful in building up his confidence when speaking to people.
Over the course of 6 weeks, Nick learned how to use his voice as a tool, getting his point across in meetings and group work. He had previously felt nervous about leaving his home, but found that through participating in Life Choices, he was able to leave his comfort zone and meet new people. The course and Konnect team also gave him the opportunity to maintain his sobriety, which he says he would not have been able to do without the support he’d been given.
