When Michelle joined the People Hub project in May 2025, she was facing a number of challenges.

She was in recovery from alcoholism, living with fibromyalgia and still processing the impact of leaving a series of abusive relationships. On top of that, she’d recently lost her job. Things felt uncertain.

Determined to make a change, Michelle was referred to People Hub partner Chaos by her social prescriber and began working with Change Coach Jess Manhire. From their first meeting, Michelle felt she was in safe hands. Jess offered practical support and a space without judgement. Together, they worked on rebuilding confidence, updating her CV and cover letter and introducing wellbeing techniques to help manage both physical pain and emotional strain.

Gradually, Michelle’s confidence returned. With Jess’s support, she applied for a job at a café in Padstow. Fittingly, she received the call offering her the role during one of her sessions with Jess.

Michelle is now working part-time at Rick Stein’s café and recently marked her first month in the role. Through the People Hub project, she also received funding for supportive footwear to make the physical demands of the job more manageable. She continues to check in with Jess, finding value in ongoing support as she builds stability in her life.

Michelle’s progress shows how consistent, practical help and a bit of belief can open the door to new opportunities.

“Thank you Chaos team, and thank you Jess for being marvellous.” – Michelle
