Meet C, a shining example of perseverance and growth

C joined the People Hub through Pluss to gain more experience and confidence, hoping to land paid work in outdoor maintenance and farm work.

Though comfortable volunteering for family, C wanted to achieve greater independence and fund his many hobbies.

Living in a rural area, C faced anxieties with public transport and new experiences. But with determination, he embarked on a 12-week Pluss Me course to boost his employability and life skills. He tackled topics like workplace expectations, interview skills and transferable skills. He even earned his first Level 3 qualification in First Aid at Work and received numeracy support from Multiply.

One of C’s biggest accomplishments was completing a Lantra award in brush cutting with Kernow Training, independently of Pluss. He stayed in a hotel alone for the first time, marking a significant step towards independence. This achievement has paved the way for paid work this summer, and C is excited for what’s to come.

C also completed First Aid training, enhancing his ability to volunteer as a sports coach for children.

The team at Pluss couldn’t be prouder of C and his incredible journey towards an independent adult working life.

C shared his experience:

“The Pluss Me course helped me in trying new things. I had to stay in a hotel all on my own for the first time to do my brush cutter course and I was nervous, but I had more confidence through my time on Pluss Me. Now I’ve done this, it wasn’t actually that bad, and I have achieved my licence which I am very happy about. I can now be paid for work over the summer, which will help me do more activities I enjoy, like Airsoft with friends.”
