Let's take a moment to celebrate the remarkable journey of Max. His story is one of overcoming adversity and embracing opportunities for growth and positive change.

After seeking treatment for alcohol addiction at Bosence Farm, Max found refuge and support at St Petrocs, marking a pivotal turning point in his life. Prior to this, he had endured the hardships of sofa-surfing and sleeping rough in squats, navigating the challenges of homelessness and addiction.

But with the unwavering support of St Petrocs Vocational Development Team (VDP), which is delivered to residents of St Petrocs houses and resource centres due to Shared Prosperity funding from the People Hub project, Max has been making huge strides forward. Engaging in various activities provided by the VDP, including tree planting, community walks and indoor football, Max has not only found happiness and camaraderie but also valuable opportunities for personal and professional development.

Max’s involvement doesn’t stop there: he has volunteered as a representative of St Petrocs, lending his voice and lived experience to public-speaking engagements, including radio appearances and community consultations. His advocacy has been instrumental in promoting awareness and understanding of homelessness issues and the vital work of St Petrocs.

Max’s gratitude for St Petrocs and the VDP knows no bounds. He emphasizes the importance of social connection and the positive impact it has had on his journey towards recovery and stability:

“VDP has been super-helpful since I have been in a St Petrocs house. The activities I have taken part in have introduced me to six other house members. Meeting new people has had such a positive impact on my progress! That has been possible due to the VDP activities and fantastic opportunities of a space to meet and work with others. VDP is such a positive department.”

With his sights set on joining the Navy, Max is eagerly awaiting the next chapter of his life. In the meantime, he remains committed to improving his physical and mental health, pursuing further education in military history and continuing to champion the transformative work of St Petrocs and the VDP.

His story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the life-changing impact of support and opportunities. Let’s cheer him on as he embraces the future with hope and determination.
