Matt Rebuilds His Confidence After Redundancy with People Hub Support

Matt joined the People Hub after being made redundant following many years with the same employer.

While he had a wealth of experience, he lacked formal industry qualifications to clearly evidence his skills in a changed job market. Funding was a major barrier and rebuilding confidence around interviews and job conversion quickly became a challenge.

Through conversations with the People Hub team it became clear that PRINCE2 would offer Matt the strongest route to gaining recognised, industry-specific knowledge. He was also signposted to bootcamps and engaged with other providers including Smart Working and BIT training to widen his options and networks.

With People Hub funding Matt completed his PRINCE2 qualification with ICS Learn and is continuing to work towards his practitioner certificate. Alongside this he received one-to-one coaching and CV support, including additional interview coaching when it became clear that while he was securing interviews, he was not converting them into job offers. This targeted support helped strengthen his approach and expand his professional connections.

Matt has since secured employment as a Business Applications and Integration Manager – Infrastructure with Falmouth Exeter Plus, starting on 29 September 2025. He is now five weeks into the role and while the transition has been challenging, he is embedding his learning and growing in confidence. Support from People Hub has included reassurance around the adjustment period and encouragement to seek mentoring within his organisation as he settles into a very different working environment.

Matt recognises that continuing to learn while unemployed strengthened his confidence and demonstrated his commitment and work ethic.

Reflecting on his journey, he said:

“My experience with the People Hub has been very positive. When I first joined the programme, I was unsure how to reposition myself after redundancy and make my experience stand out in a changed job market. The support I received helped me to identify the right training path and rebuild confidence in my employability skills.

The PRINCE2 qualification gave me a solid foundation to demonstrate current, recognised project management skills, and the one-to-one coaching helped me refine my approach to applications and interviews. Having someone to check in with regularly made a real difference — it helped me stay motivated and keep improving.

I’m now five weeks into a new role as Business Applications and Integrations Manager (Infrastructure) at Falmouth Exeter Plus. It’s a challenging and rewarding step, and I’m grateful for the encouragement and structure that People Hub provided throughout the process. The experience reminded me that continuous learning and openness to guidance can make all the difference during a transition like this. Thanks to Mandy Deering for her continued support.”
