One of Konnect’s participants recently regained their freedom after time on remand.

With a past shaped by serious criminal activities and family strain, they are determined to build a stable life for their spouse and child. Despite limited education and an erratic work history, they are committed to gaining qualifications, securing steady work and supporting their family.

Upon release, they set their sights on a career in construction. With some experience in the field, they were eager to work outdoors and prove themselves. Konnect quickly registered them for a work experience day with a local construction company, where they explored different roles and tested their skills in a real-world setting. Despite battling anxiety, their confidence grew with Konnect’s support, and they signed up for the ‘Hard Hat Ready’ course at Truro and Penwith College, which provides vital training for construction work.

Although ADHD makes paperwork challenging, their motivation is strong. Konnect worked with them to navigate these difficulties, ensuring they had the support they needed.

In just a few weeks, they completed Health & Safety training and earned the certificate for their CSCS card, essential for working on construction sites. They’re now preparing for the CSCS test and looking at an apprenticeship in groundworks. While waiting for the next steps, they’re working on their CV with Konnect’s help.

They’re also focused on improving their academic qualifications. Enrolled in a Multiply course to boost their maths, followed by English to improve employability, their commitment to personal growth has inspired everyone supporting them, including staff from Penwith College, Adult Education and Vistry Construction.

In a short time, they’ve made remarkable progress. Their hard work and determination have set them on a path to a successful career and a stable family life, far from past contacts. Their character and drive have impressed all those involved in their journey.

Through the collaboration of Konnect Communities, the People Hub, Penwith College, Multiply, Adult Education and Vistry Construction, this case shows how coordinated support can help someone break free from their past and build a brighter future.
