David Finds His Direction with People Hub and Konnect

When David joined People Hub he was facing a tough time.

After previous involvement in the criminal justice system (resulting in an assault conviction) and long-term unemployment he was struggling with low mood, financial insecurity and a lack of routine. Despite this he arrived determined to make a change and saw employment as the key to rebuilding his confidence and stability.

Konnect supported him from the start with one-to-one guidance to refresh his CV, apply for roles and rebuild his self-belief. This led to a trial shift at Premier Inn in May and with help accessing workwear and transport he was able to attend with confidence. He was offered a job and Konnect supported him through the digital onboarding and ID process. When he later lost the role due to an unintentional missed shift David suffered a decline in mood, but with steady support he re-engaged.

He threw himself into workshops including CV building, budgeting, digital skills and The Unstoppable You course which helped him improve self-esteem and communication. He also took part in conflict resolution training, creative workshops and even a circus teamwork session which helped boost his confidence in group settings.

Recognising that literacy was holding him back, David joined group maths and English sessions and began one-to-one reading support. He also started volunteering weekly at Bolghen Tree Nursery where he has built routine and teamwork skills. This has become an important part of his growing confidence and sense of purpose.

Since joining People Hub David has made real progress. He now engages more positively, communicates with greater confidence and has built resilience through both success and setbacks. He continues applying for jobs, has attended interviews with Danish Crown and B&M and is determined to secure stable work. He has even started creating a scrapbook to celebrate how far he has come.

Looking ahead David plans to continue volunteering, keep building his skills and stay focused on finding sustainable employment. His confidence and commitment have put him in a far stronger place than when he first joined.

Reflecting on the journey he said:“The support has been really good. Really helpful with employment. All the courses have been really friendly and good fun. Meeting new people was good for me. My reading and writing is coming on with the one-to-ones, it’s really helpful. And I really enjoy the support.”
