Building Futures: People Hub’s Construction Skills Course Leads to Jobs for All Participants

The People Hub project, led by Cornwall Council, has once again showcased the power of collaboration and practical training by delivering a highly successful Construction Skills course, resulting in all seven participants securing employment in the construction industry.

The initiative was facilitated by Olie from the People Hub, working in close partnership with:

• Cornwall Training – delivering the core Construction Skills programme
• In Safe Hands – providing essential First Aid training
• ITS Construction – supporting as the employer partner

Over an intensive three-day course, participants gained key qualifications in Health & Safety, First Aid, and had the opportunity to meet with a local employer. The outcome? Every participant earned their CSCS card and took confident steps into the construction workforce.
Participants are now working across Cornwall in a variety of settings, including:

• The redevelopment of the former Hotel Victoria in Newquay
• Construction work at RNAS Culdrose
• A local business in Padstow
• A housing estate in Bodmin, building new homes
• One participant has even launched their own painting and decorating business

Feedback from the group has been overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as:

“Outstanding support provided.”
“Everything has been great!”

This success story is a shining example of how Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly People Hub project is helping residents build brighter futures through skills, confidence, and opportunity.
